Work At Home Websites
It is possible to make money online without owning your own website as many of the programs outlined on the
Top 25 Opportunities page
shows. But suppose you do want to create a website. If you're a tech-head, then this is a simple proposition. If you're not, and you don't know a HTML tag from a luggage tag, then how do you even go about creating a website? And then, where do you
have it hosted? Who's good and who's bad?
This page isn't about how you go about creating a website but one route to take is to pick up some webpage building software such as
FrontPage
or
Dreamweaver
or XSitePro and learn how to put webpages together. There can
be a steep learning curve with this approach if you're not at all familiar with HTML or how websites are built in general.
Another option is to hire a web developer. However, if you're on a small budget, then this is an expensive option as all the knowledge remains with your developer and you'll need to rehire them to make changes to your website.
A third option is Site Build It!. I'd heard great things about this and
was finally recommended to use it by a friend who'd started building her own site through it. I was also curious as to how different and easier it would be to build a site using Site Build It!'s point and click interface. While, for me, it was a bit of an adjustment not being elbow-deep in HTML code, the tools
provided are eminently simple and anyone (and I do mean anyone) who can click a mouse can build a website, and if you follow the Site Build It! philosophy, it'll end up being profitable. For this reason and the amount of tools and handholding they provide, Site Build
It! gets top ranking. If you want to find out more about Site Build It! then check out The Complete Site Build It! Reference Center. There are even some freebies and you can check out some aspects of their system.
If you're familiar with building websites and all you're looking for is somewhere to host the site, then take a look at the list of recommended web hosting companies below. All provide excellent service.
If you are building an online business, then stay clear of the hosting companies that offer free hosting. They're fine for personal pages. In order to make them pay, the free web hosting companies automatically display a number of popup ads over which
you have no control. This can make your site look amateurish and cheap and the number of ads is intrusive and annoying for your visitors.

Host4Profit
Host4Profit is the place net-savvy people
go or so we're told. A couple of years ago, its 300Mb of webspace, full CGI support, a functional shopping card, MySQL, PHP, mailing lists, autoresponders, secure server access, Frontpage support and support for anonymous FTP all handled through an
incredibly easy to use control panel was a pretty good feature set.
These days, many web hosting companies provide equal or better packages for a substantially lower monthly fee (Host4Profit charge $24.95 per month). True, Host4Profit does offer one of the best referral programs - for each account you refer, you get
$10/month as long as it remains active. Technical support is good and their contention ratio is lower (i.e. better) than other web hosts.
Host4Profit is also home of the Internet
Warrior Forum where all the top internet gurus hang out. This forum is a goldmine of information and resources that you won't find anywhere else. This may be one very good reason for joining Host4Profit as the advice and information you get on this forum
is outstanding. Many of the internet gurus hang out there.

Shared hosting is the general way people host their websites. If you're not familiar with the term, Shared hosting is Web hosting where the service provider serves pages for multiple Web sites, each having its own Internet domain name, from a single
Web server. Most Web hosting companies provide shared hosting. Although shared hosting is a less expensive way for businesses to create a Web presence, it is usually not sufficient for Web sites with high traffic. These sites need a dedicated Web
server, either provided by a Web hosting service or maintained in-house. These are also known a Virtual Private Servers.
If your website receives a huge amount of traffic and you're using shared hosting, that traffic can impact the response of other websites on the same server (and lead to very unhappy webmasters). A typical scenario is where hundreds of blogs are
being created and accessed (using a tool such as The Blog Solution). In such cases, a dedicated server is the preferred method of hosting.
Below, you'll find some recommended companies that provide such a service.
