Well, I need some advice from you married folks. I am married and have been for almost 6 years. My husband and I have been together for 9 years now in total. Here's the thing...he's away visiting family and I am not so sure I want him to come home! I quite enjoy having the house to myself and getting my little ritual going...bed by 10 every night, up at 6, out of the house no later than 7, at work EARLY - heaven forbid!! I have to drive him everywhere. He hasn't a driver's license (never had one - ever) and he refuses to get one. I have condoned this for 9 years...how do I break him of that nasty habit? We live a ways out of town, it's about a 6 mile walk from the closest bus stop to our house and more than 15 to the nearest convenience store. I don't mind some driving but it's ridiculous. Oh...and we live in central Alberta Canada, so we get anywhere from 2" to 10 feet of snow in the winter...yeah, that's fun! He's very materialistic...has to have all the newest stuff now, and the amount of money spent on video games and comic books and movies is ridiculous (yes...this is my husband buying comics and games...). I am so overwhelmed by the "stuff" all over my place that I don't buy anything. I have maybe 5 movies that I would classify as my own and I download my music off itunes so I really only have a handful of CDs too. He spends hundreds of dollars a month on this crap and I don't know how to curb it. I can't afford him anymore... We have home internet plus he decided to get a portable internet stick thingy to go with the netbook he absolutely couldn't live with out. I have internet at work and honestly I could care less if I had it at home. I don't watch much TV...about 2 shows a week. Our cable box is in the bedroom and I have repeatedly asked him to move it to the living room, but he hasn't. He watches wrestling on monday nights and if he misses the 6 show its on again at 10 - so that means I can't go to bed until after midnight. I can't sleep with the noise and flickering lights. He cheated on me 2 years ago and part of me hasn't forgiven him for that, nor will I. I am always suspicious of his activities and in recent opportunities have seen evidence that he has another relationship on the side...but that's not even the part that has me thinking of leaving him. I am 32 years old and this is not the life I wanted. We live in my father's basement, mainly because my father is quite elderly and likes our company and the fact that I keep the house clean, cook and do his laundry, but regardless, I could still do that from my own house. I have 0 money saved because hubby spends so much. If there is a little in the account - swoop there it goes...oh, this game came out, or this magazine has to be bought ($13 for a mag?? Really??) I needed this blah blah blah blah blah. SOOOO SICK OF IT!!! I want a place of my own that I can call my own and I can't seem to get the guy to save some freaking money. He has 2 credit cards and they're both racked to the max. I just can't see how we can get ahead of this traincrash. I feel like he's become more of a burden than it's worth. I am so sad all the time, this week I have actually been happy! I was able to watch the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet for the first time in months. i am in bed at a respectable time and up without complaint, which when he is around is out of the ordinary. He has completely taken over the basement with his crap...I just don't know what to do anymore... Any insights or personal experience would be appreciated. He says he loves me, but sometimes I think he's there just for the free rent and chauffeur. It feels almost as if he's just waiting for something better to come up so he has a place to go.
