What is Part-Time Data Entry Work at Home Part-time work at home employees who work for information-driven companies are usually involved in data entry. Their job consists of setting up and preparing reports, letters, mailing labels, and other textual material. Often, this part-time work at home job is classified as entry level so data entry workers start with typing headings on form letters, addressing envelopes, or preparing standard forms on typewriters or computers. Further on, as they gain more experience in their chosen field, these work at home employees may be assigned to do more complicated tasks - ones that require a higher degree of accuracy and independent judgment. For instance, an entry level part-time home employee may only make neat, typed copies of materials that have been created by other clerical, professional, or office workers. When they become senior employees, they may be allowed to work with more technical materials, complicated assignments involving spreadsheets and data management. What You Need To be able to to data entry jobs from home, you will want to provide your own office supplies and equipment. The first thing you're going to need is a word processing equipment, which includes a computer, a printer, and perhaps a scanner. You will need them to record, edit, store, and revise letters, memos, reports, statistical tables, forms, and other printed materials. Other Responsibilities You may also have other responsibilities aside from those mentioned above. For one, you may be responsible for inputting lists of items, numbers, or other data into computers. You may also be assigned to complete forms that appear on a computer screen. Other responsibilities of data entry workers may include manipulating existing data, editing current information, or proofreading new entries to a database for accuracy. Some samples of data sources that you will most likely be dealing with are customer's personal information, medical records, and membership lists. How do you qualify for a job as a part-time data entry work at home employee? Employers generally hire people who meet their requirements for keyboarding speed. So, if you know how to type, you can generally get a data entry job. However, due to challenges in the job, employers are increasingly expecting their applicants to have further training and experience in word processing or data entry. Some of the skills which you might want to develop are spelling, punctuation, and grammar. Familiarity with standard office equipment and procedures is also a great plus factor.
